“Oppo showcases Oppo X 2021 phone with Rollable OLED screen, Oppo AR glass 2021 with Air, Voice gestures.”
On the occasion of its INNO day 2020, Oppo has announced the launch of two new hardware products. The event took place in Shenzhen, China and the Company has announced about the soon to release products. One of the products is the new Oppo X 2021 and the other happens to be Oppo AR (Augmented Reality) Glasses 2021. The products will be launched in the coming year 2021 (date is yet to confirm).
Oppo X 2021
Oppo X 2021 comes with a rollable display ranging from 6.7 inches to 7.4 inches in width, leaving the user decide how to roll it out. As per Levin Liu, the OPPO Vice President and Head of OPPO Research Institute, who showcased the device, the functionality of the phone is similar to a scroll unfolding.
This phone will be different from other foladable screen smartphones (as Samsung) there won’t be any crease visible when the folded part is rolled out. It has a “continuously variable OLED display”. The phone has the flawless effect when the width is adjusted accordingly. It has curved edges with a USB Type-C port and speaker grills at the bottom.
Three technologies are used in the screen like a Roll motor powertrain, 2-in-1 plate and self-developed warp Track high-strength screen lamination. The 2-in-1 plate beneath the screen acts according to the display when it is rolled out, it also helps that the screen is flat when expanded. The Roll motor powertrain drives the screen while rolling out.
There’s also WARP Track high strength screen (made of extra strong steel) laminates to make sure the screen is resilient. It is 0.1 mm thick. The phone will be supporting 16:9 or 4:3 formats.
Oppo AR Glasses 2021
Oppo AR Glasses will be the improved version on the 2020 variant released at the previous year’s Oppo INNO Day. The glasses support a split design form factor and weighs 75 percent less than the previous one.
They come with improved CPU and GPU performance. The glasses feature a stereo fisheye camera, one Time of Flight (ToF) sensor, SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) algorithms, Diffractive optical waveguide technology, gesture & voice navigation, and a RGB camera and a large speaker.
They support 3D spatial localization calculation within seconds, this enhances natural AR experiences for the user. The AR ecosystem is in a developing stage, as stated by Liu. They have also announced the OPPO Developer AR program in next year. An Oppo mobile AR and glass platform for developers would be in the second half of 2021.
